LARP Musings

Add to Memories Share
Prophet
I haven't been able to attend an OWBN game in several months, for a couple of reasons, mostly school and WoW, which I simply prioritize higher. I am still on the Vite-OOC list and some Nosferatu clan lists.

The recent argument over what-happened-at-the-last-LARP is so commonplace it may as well be a formula. People legitimately have differing recollections of what happened. An event may be as short as 3 IC seconds, and almost always under a minute, but of course in Real Time that could be hours. Things are discused, revised, and rehashed during play, as well as afterwards.

Inevitably, the same drama ensues again and again. "That's not the way it happened." "We were at location X not Y." "The order of events was A, B, C not B, C, A, and you totally forgot D."

I feel like the lonely prophet shouting at the wind, because it seems obvious to me what the issue and answer is (of course, its really just my opinion but we all love our own opinions):

Simulationist LARP is just broken.

Battlestar Galactica: Finale

I usually leave the BSG recaps to [info]boztopia and I guess I still will, but I will give my impressions of the finale, behind a cut of course as even without a recap there obviously will be spoilers...

Stupid IIS Question

Add to Memories Share
Prophet
I have a web application that (among other things) generates form letters. It puts out the form letter into an web page (like letterusername0.html). From there the user would go to File, Edit with Microsoft Word to be able to format and print the letter.

My problem is that the Edit button on the browser is disabled when viewing this. If I actually read the HTML off the hard drive (ie C:\letters\letterusername0.html) the Edit button is enabled, but if I am browsing it via http the edit feature is disabled.

I have other servers where this problem is not occurring. I am assuming it is some setting in IIS or something that I am not seeing. These are older machines, Windows 2000 Server with IIS 5. I am trying to make a new server act like the existing ones so I can use it as a test/upgrade platform, but I'm stuck until I can replicate the functionality of the production box.

Any thoughts?

You finally jumped the shark to the ultimate level!

There is now no genre save OWBN genre. All arguments about WoD genre are pretty much quashed.

The Christian Children's Fund sucks ass.

This is a charity that helps out starving children worldwide.  They were also apparently the favorite charity of Gary Gygax, such that the Charity Auction at the last GenCon was set to donate over $17,000 to them.

These imbeciles refused to take the money, because it was connected in part with sales of that most demonic of games, Dungeons & Dragons.  An alternative charity was found.

Faith, Religion, Church

My last post got a little (ok a lot) sidetracked in the comments about some nitty-gritty details of Christian interpretation, and there is one important distinction I want to make.

Religion and Politics

I have been thinking more about issues of religion these days, and it is a subject that has always intrigued me. Perhaps the proximity of the election is highlighting it in the media more, but since I had always intended that one purpose of this journal would be to ramble on the subject of religion, what the heck.

WARNING: Long, rambling, controversial issues.
